Now, more than ever, it’s vital that we remember to support our local communities!  Luckily, we have an incredible food scene around the triangle area, one of the best being Durham.  Whether you’re looking for a date night out to get some much-needed time without the kids or are yearning to get your favorite take-out, these can’t-be-beat restaurants will offer everything you need to have the perfect dining experience.

Foster’s Market – If you’re looking for an outdoor option for weekend brunch, look no further!  Enjoy the remarkable food and social atmosphere or, for those on the go, stop by the deli and pick up one of their renowned sandwiches!

True Flavors Diner – This little dinner is just outside of downtown and worth the change in scenery.  A quaint diner with homemade food that will leave you wanting to try everything left on the menu.

Dames Chicken and Waffles – A local classic.  What makes Dames so good?  Everything.  Between the spices and shmears, their variety of chicken and waffles can’t be beaten.

    Dinner and Fine Dining

Mateo Bar de Tapas – This Spanish inspired tapas restaurant is a must for a well-deserved night out.  Whether it’s date night or ladies night, Mateos sets their menu up perfectly, allowing guests to order anything that sparks their interest to share all around.  You’ll never leave wishing you could have ordered something else!

M KOKKO – The true definition of a hidden gem.  This Korean/Japanese influenced menu is worth the wait and will provide the quaintest atmosphere.  No reservations and no large groups, the entire restaurant seats about 15 people.

M SUSHI – Looking for sushi?  Look no further.  Directly next door to M KOKKO, M Sushi is the go-to for sushi in downtown Durham.  Their menu is “small and purposeful” and made up of the highest quality seafood you can find.

Littler – Fine dining at its best.  Littler is a must-visit for any anniversary, Valentine’s Day, or special occasion with a loved one.  They have managed to find the perfect balance between elegance and farm-to-table dining and the 30-person dining room is ideal for romantic nights out.  They are also dedicated to the community and pride themselves in not only supporting but also featuring the local farms that supply their food.

Nana’s – For decades, Nana’s has been one of Durham’s most prized restaurants and they’re still going strong.  They offer a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan options, as well as an extensive wine list.  Nana’s offers all of the classic go-to’s for an American restaurant but with a unique modern twist that will keep you coming back.

Dashi – Ramen restaurants are very much the trend right now and Dashi has perfected it!  To some this restaurant up in one word: cozy.

Vin Rouge – A classic French bistro.  They say that they transport their guests into a quaint French village and they do so with ease.  From the atmosphere to the exceptionally thought out menu, Vin Rouge is a gem.  Is your family coming to town for the holidays?  Don’t forget to take them here to admire their gorgeous tree!

Rue Cler – A more modern take on French cuisine.  In the mood for midday champagne like a true Parisian?  Don’t pass up lunch at Rue Cler with a signature half bottle on the side!

Bleu Olive – A Mediterranean/Greek bistro with everything you’d imagine.  The flavors, variety, and welcoming staff are the best.

Juju – Asian Fusion in a tapas-style format.  Juju is in a perfect location near the Duke campus and is an ideal place to get dinner to share with the table.

    Casual Dining

Saltbox Seafood Joint – The best “food truck” you’ll ever experience.  Saltbox Seafood Joint might look like a little shack but you’ll leave knowing you’ve just had the freshest, most delicious seafood that Durham can offer!

Toro – Get your pizza fix at Toro.  Delicious wood-fired pizza that everyone in the family will crave!

Refectory Cafe – Contemporary seafood and pasta and an atmosphere for the entire family.  Everything they serve, from breakfast to lunch, is delicious and worth coming back for.

Burger Bach – A gastropub with the best burgers you’ll ever taste!  They offer everything that a standard gastropub would offer with a New Zealand influence that tantalizes your tastebuds.

Guglhupf Bakery and Biergarten – A truly unique experience.  Guglhupf is a café and bakery by night and a social haven Biergarten by night.  Come for the food, stay for the memories.

    Café’s and Baked Goods

Beyu – This café doesn’t close when the sun goes down.  Their live music and jazz scene is a must in Durham!

Cocoa Cinnamon – A local coffee chain that you can be proud to support.  They started small and now have convenient locations throughout the area.

Loaf – There’s no seating at Loaf.  It’s a true “order and go” style bakery that will bring the best memories eating at home with your family.

The French Corner Bakery – Have you always wanted to visit France?  Do you miss the croissants from your Parisian getaway?  You’re in luck!  This corner bakery is a little way from downtown but so, so worth it.  With a chef who grew up and learned in Paris and croissants made fresh every morning, you’ll feel like you’re walking along the Seine River.

    Brews and Bars

The Durham Hotel Rooftop – This atmosphere is simply perfect.  Relax with a drink while overlooking all of Durham.  In the winter months, enjoy their popular $1 oysters and half-price bottles of wine.

Ponysaurus Brewing Company – Great craft beer and the best place to catch a game! Ponysaurus also has drive-thru hours so you can get your beer to-go!  They also have a wonderful “picnic-style” outdoor area to enjoy your brews with yard games.

FULLSTEAM – Delicious local beer with an even better mission.  The mission for FULLSTEAM is to create and support a “southern beer economy”.  They have committed themselves to purchase from local farmers.  In fact, every beer has a “%L” on it, telling us how the percentage local it is and what farm supplied its ingredients.

Kingfisher Bar – A true cocktail bar without a food menu.  Kingfisher is so unique and such a staple to Durham.  Literally everything that you’ll come into contact with is locally made and sourced, right down to the glassware!  What better way to support the community?

There you have it!  Durham dining’s best!  As always, remember to call ahead before heading to your restaurant of choice to ensure that they’re open and see what precautions they’re taking to make both their customers and employees safe.  Durham has so much to offer residents and an eclectic, ever-growing, dining scene is front and center of the experience.  Bon Appetit!
