    Great Family-Friendly Events to Enjoy this Weekend in the Triangle!!

    As summer progresses, we’re finding more and more in-person events emerging throughout the triangle area.  If you’re looking to enjoy quality family time out of the house, you may want to try any of these wonderful, safe events!

    Raleigh

    • Summer Open Nursery and Garden Days – The Juniper Level Botanical Garden is hosting one of their free garden weekends on Friday and Saturday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and Sunday from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Enjoy over 28-acres of 30,000 plants and flowers that have been collected from all over the world.
    • Food Truck Flix – Enjoy a night out with the family at FOCUS Church with the best food trucks in the area. Passes are $25 per car and the showing begins at 7:00 pm.  Hidden Figures will be playing on Friday night and The Sandlot will be showing on Saturday night.  All proceeds from the parking passes are donated to a different non-profit each month.  This month, proceeds will go to Emancipate NC.
    • Flow Yoga at the Farm – Enjoy an all-levels yoga class at Raleigh City Farm on Saturday morning at 8:00 am. Registration is online and it is a “pay what you can” event (suggested admission is $15).  The Raleigh City Farm is a nonprofit organization and a portion of each admission goes directly to farm funding.

    Durham

    • Guided Tours at West Point on the Eno – These free tours take place Friday – Sunday from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm and run until August 30th. While on the tour, you’ll learn about the 404-acre park and the history of the Griff Mill and the old McCown-Mangum House.  While you’re there, enjoy a day of boating, grilling, or hiking along the trails!
    • Durham Craft Market – Taking place every Saturday through November, the craft fair features local artisans that reside no further than 30 miles outside of the city. The market runs from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm and is located on Foster St., adjacent to the Farmers Market Pavilion.
    • Movies in the Beer Garden – Enjoy a night out at The Glass Jug Beer Lab while watching the Goonies on the 20 ft inflatable outdoor screen. The showing is free and starts at 8:00 pm.  Feel free to bring your own blankets and lawn chairs but keep in mind they will be requiring social distancing from other parties.

    Chapel Hill/Carrboro

    • Spring Haven Farm Visits – Schedule a visit on the farm and enjoy a family day with baby cows, pigs, horses, donkeys, and goats. Admission is $10 for those 4 and older and kids age 3 and younger are admitted for free.  The farm also has a tractor train and pallet maze for all of the kids to enjoy.  Visits are scheduled from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm on Fridays and from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm for Saturdays and Sundays.  Visits must be scheduled in advance and the farm has plenty of social distancing procedures and precautions in place to keep your family safe.
    • Walking Tours of Chapel Hill – These free tours last about an hour and a half and take places every day this weekend, beginning at 4:30 pm. You’ll start at the Morehead Planetarium and walk 1.25 miles through downtown while learning about the history of Chapel Hill and how the town came to establish UNC, the oldest public university in the country.  Registration is online and wheelchairs are welcome.
    • Movies with Goats – Enjoy a night at Spring Haven Farm interacting with the animals and a surprise movie. Friday night is dedicated to date night (BYOB) and Saturday night is for the entire family!  Each movie starts at dusk and will not be announced in advance.   Tickets are $10 and should be purchased in advance.

    Hillsborough

    • U-Pick Sunflower Day – Schedule a session for U-Pick flowers at Firefly Farm this Friday the 17th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am or Saturday the 18th from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. You have the choice of sunflowers and many other gorgeous wildflowers such as black-eyed susans and zinnias.  They will also have pre-picked bouquets and vegetables for sale.

     

    And finally.  Sunday, July 19th is NATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY!  What better way to finish out the weekend than enjoying your favorite ice cream with your family?  Stop by your local shop of choice and celebrate accordingly!  Local favorites such as Maple View Farm, Howling Cow, and Insomnia Cookies are all sure to please.  Have a wonderful weekend!
