    North Carolina Food & Beverage Trails Part 3: The Great WNC Cheese Trail!

    Did you know that North Carolina is home to some of the best quality cheese in the country?  Luckily, for all of the cheese connoisseurs in the state, there’s a trail for this!  The WNC Cheese Trail has long been promoting the first-class artisan cheese makers that makeup Western North Carolina.  While on the trail, you’ll enjoy various classes and education, tastings, conversation with the artisans, wine pairings farm visits, and annual festivals!  There is nothing quite like the WNC Cheese Trail!  Here are the participating artisans you don’t want to miss!!

    • Round Mountain Creamery – Black Mountain
    • You’ll get nothing but quality from Round Mountain Creamery, a 28-acre farm that was established in 2002! The First Grade “A” goat dairy in the history of the state, all of the cheese is made on the farm and guests can visit with both their Alpine and LaMancha goats when they stop by for a tasting.
    • Tours are by appointment only Wednesday – Saturday and the cheese store is open from 12:00 – 4:00, Friday and Saturday.


    • Yellow Branch Cheese – Robbinsville
    • Yellow branch offers four varieties of fresh cheese made from their very own Jersey cows, as well as an abundance of fresh produce. When you stop at the store, make sure you don’t forget to also check out their one-of-a-kind pottery for sale!
    • Looking for an adventure? They also have a beautiful, newly remodeled, farmhouse for rent on-site!
    • Tours are given throughout April – November from 12:00 – 5:00, Tuesday – Saturday, as well as by appointment.


    • Three Graces Dairy – Marshall
    • Three Graces offers a variety of French-style cheese produced from their cows, goats, and sheep.
    • Tours are by appointment only. They will soon be offering a workshop and cheese making classes – check their website for the details!  Private parties and events are also available on site.


    • Looking Glass Creamery – Columbus/Fairview
    • Looking glass offers cheese and caramel that’s produced and processed right on the farm. The family of Looking Glass takes great pride in their outstanding artisan-made seasonal, Southern, and Farmstead cheese!
    • The Fairview store hours are Thursday – Sunday from 11:00 – 5:00. The Columbus farm and store hours are Friday and Saturday from 11:00 – 5:00.  They also rent out many of their elegant buildings for private events and weddings!


    • Blue Ridge Mountain Creamery – Fairview
    • The owner of Blue Ridge Mountain carved the cheese cave that ages their cheese into the base of the mountain himself, which is the perfect testament to this unique creamery. Everything that is behind the Blue Ridge name is both distinctive and personally crafted!
    • Tasting tours are available on Fridays by appointment only.
    • English Farmstead Cheese – Marion
    • A true treasure to the Asheville area! English Farmstead has thrived throughout 6 generations of devoted and passionate artisans.  Make sure to get there early because the store sells out quickly!
    • Tours are available from 10:00 – 6:00, Friday and Saturday.


    • Heritage Homestead – Crumpler
      • Goat cheese at its finest. Heritage Homestead produces a variety of cheeses from their elusive Aline, Saanen, and Nubian herds.  Licensed since 2009, you can also find their delectable cheese at all of the local farmer’s markets!
      • Tours are available by appointment only.


    • Spinning Spider Creamery – Marshall
      • Spinning Spider produces mouth-watering goat cheese using only the best milk from their award-winning goats. The creamery itself encompasses everything that mountain life should be made of!
      • Tours and cheese sales are available May – December from 12:00 – 4:00, Friday – Sunday.
