It’s quickly approaching my favorite time of year – Strawberry Season!
I grew up in Raleigh/Wake Forest and I have always loved April-June where we could spend early mornings at the strawberry patch picking ripe red strawberries to make preserves, desserts, chocolate-dipped delights, and fresh snacks. I admit I always had to sneak a taste or two in the field, though I doubt it was subtle due to the red juice stains on my face that are often inevitable when enjoying a ripe strawberry.
So where can you find these fresh, sweet treats around Chapel Hill?
Take your “pick”!
Cate’s Corner Farm has green houses to explore and fields at the ready for you to find your perfect bushel of berries!
Waller Family Farm in Durham has extensive fields ready to welcome you!
McAdams Farm in Efland offers a beautiful variety in their annual harvest!
If you prefer the pre-picked variety or need to save some time, these farms often have bushels of picked strawberries at their farms or you may find some in the Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Durham Farmers’ Markets!
To stay up-to-date on the readiness of the strawberry crop and the daily availability, I highly recommend following these farms’ Facebook pages as that is where they post regular updates and their hours of operation and status of the fields.
