Are you interested in getting rid of some old clothes ? Looking to declutter your garage? Or just make a little extra cash? Why not host a garage sale this summer. We've got the best tips and tricks and even a few recommendations of companies to make sure that your tag sale is the hit of the block!

Clean and Declutter

One of the first steps to having a successful tag sale is to clean and declutter. You will want to organize your items into keep, sell, or trash. Once you have your piles organized we suggest that you break it into further categories to make it easier to shop.  Some examples include clothing, books, and toys, you can also further break this down into ages and price ranges. A helpful hint, pair items that go together to help sell more, such as decorative cushions on a couch or draping a scarf around a jacket.

Set Prices

A good rule of thumb is to price things at a quarter or a third of what they cost brand new. You can go a tad bit higher for items that still have the tags on them. Be prepared to negotiate and pre-determine the lowest price that you are willing to go.

Advertise

Get word of mouth out there! To have a successful tag sale you will want to drum up interest, the more people the better. Nextdoor, your community facebook group, and craigslist are all great places to post. You will also want to place neighborhood directional signs a day in advance. Balloons are also a great way to get people to stop by.
