One of my favorite things to look forward to every summer is the Fourth of July Fireworks. There isn't quite anything like it! Time with family & friends, potluck meals with tasty treats for kids ( of all ages, right ??!? There is so much going on in our communities. Over the years, we have really enjoyed some special events.  Here’s a list of some “best tips”, tricks, and spots for you to make sure that you and your loved ones (furry friends included) enjoy this holiday.

Spending the 4th if Chapel Hill ?  Looking to spend time with friends and family?  Gather this year at Southern Community Park with your blankets, chairs to enjoy the fireworks. Event parking starts at 7pm and the fireworks display starts at 9pm. Bring your bug spray and some water for kids and pets! It’s going to be a hot one.

Keeping it cool in Carrboro | Looking to enjoy the day in addition to the fireworks? Stop by the Carrboro Town Commons starting at 930AM. They will be hosting a bike/wagon decorating contest as well as a costume contest for kids. Following, there will be the People’s Parade that ends at Townhall.

Pittsboro more of your speed??  | In case you want to celebrate a little earlier, why not swing by Downtown Pittsboro and stop at the Pittsboro Summer Fest? From 3-830PM on Sunday, July 2nd you can enjoy everything from a bicycle parade, pie contest, Axe throwing, a bounce house, and even a BBQ Cookoff. YUMMY!

In Durham | Why not enjoy a baseball game and fireworks? The Durham Bulls will be facing off against the Norfolk Tides. Following the game, there will be an amazing firework display to enjoy! You don't have to attend the game to see the fireworks, the gates will open after the end of the 7th inning for guests to enjoy for free.

Heading into Raleigh | Want to enjoy the evening with music, food trucks and fireworks? Head on over to Dix Park in Raleigh. With food trucks and music starting at 5pm, it's a great way to relax before the firework show starts at 930PM! There will also be a Family Activity Zone featuring slides, skee ball, and a foam party pit. This is a great time for everyone! Ps don't forget your blankets, coolers, and bug spray here!

Staying at Home | Looking to spend 4th with your pooch at home? We've got you covered. Tune in to PBS and watch the live stream of “A Capitol Fourth”. You can host your own watch party, play trivia games and they even have some great DIY decoration ideas. There are even some great online resources for hosting a 4th of July party at home!

If your furry friend is scared of the fireworks like ours, we've got some tips for you too! Make sure they have the proper ID tag attached to their collar. Create a safe spot for them, such as a closet, and play some white noise that can help drown out the noise. A thunder vest or doggie burrito can really help them feel secure. And finally, take them for a nice long walk before the sun sets! This will help tire them out, as well as increase the chances you will avoid the fireworks! If you need to take them out, double-check their collar and harness.
