Pumpkin Patches & Apple Orchards
As the leaves begin to turn, and a cool, crisp breeze sweeps through the air, it can only mean one thing: Autumn has arrived! Perhaps one of the most cherished autumn traditions, aside from drinking warm cider by the fire, is visiting local pumpkin patches and apple orchards! We have the PERFECT list of places to visit!
Holder Hill Farm
Holder Hill Farm located in Durham is entering their 4th season as a local pumpkin patch! They have multiple varieties and sizes of pumpkins this season and they will be open 7 days a week starting September 22nd! Admission is $16 and includes all of their farm activities, corn maze, hay ride, farm animals, and more! Pack a lunch and make a day at the farm.
Spring Haven Farm
Spring Haven Farm located in Chapel Hill is offering Carving Pumpkins with Goats! While you carve your pumpkins, you will be entertained with baby goats jumping on tables, petting them and of course feeding them. While there you can also pet the numerous other animals on site, ride a tractor, and go through a small maze. Make sure that you buy tickets before you go!
For Garden's Sake
Open daily and located in Durham, For Garden’s Sake has great pumpkins, goats to pet, ducks and a teeter-totter. After you pick your favorite pumpkin, stop by their garden shed and pick up a new house plant! It’s a perfect opportunity for family photos!
Perkin's Orchard
While not quite an orchard, Perkins Orchard located in Durham is a produce market where you can get fresh apples daily. Run by Donovan Watson the owner, he took over the family business from his grandfather and has made the Farm stand what it is today. They bring in over 12 varieties of apples from different states daily for your enjoyment. They also have a great assortment of pumpkins as well! While there, grab the $25 bag where you can fill up the bag with fresh produce and fruit for just $25! They also stock other such goods as eggs, cheese and other jarred goods.
Devil Dog Orchard
Conveniently located in the Greensboro area, Devil Dog Orchard was founded by Larry who spent 28 years in the Marine Corps (Hence the Devil Dog name). They grow numerous varieties of apples of which you can pick from. They have buckets ranging from $5-$32 depending on how much you love apples! While there, make sure you give their dogs a couple of pets. This is truly a family run business and we love to support it!
Open Sundays from 1-5p and located in Hendersonville (The 7th top producer of apples in the US), Creasman Farm offers over 40 varieties of apples on site. They are a 3rd generation family run farm. After you finish picking, you’ll want to make sure to stop and pick up one of their delicious pastry items, featuring of course their home grown apples.
Jeter Mountain Farm
Jeter Mountain Farm Apple Orchard located on over 400 acres has been open since 2014 and is worth the drive to Hendersonville NC. With over 25 varieties of U-Pick apples, this is sure to be a great time for your family. In addition to picking apples, you can also stop by their Cider room for some belly warming cider, 1813 Smokehouse where you can enjoy classic NC BBQ, a playroom for the kids to enjoy, and of course their bakery where you have to stop by for their Apple Cider Donuts. This is the perfect farm for all to enjoy and worth the day trip! Dont forget to grab a half gallon of apple cider on your way home!
