Spring Cleaning Tips And Tricks

Spring-cleaning is the perfect time to tackle those chores you’ve been avoiding all year long. We’ve got the top 10 tips and tricks to make sure your house is sparkling! If you have some of your own tips and tricks please share them with us !

Banish food splatters from your dirty microwave

We all know we have a few built up splatters on the microwave that we are pretending don't exist. Thankfully this is a super easy and quick clean! Grab a microwaveable bowl, fill with water and a slice of lemon and put in your microwave. Microwave for 3-5 minutes and then let it sit with the door closed for another 5-10 minutes  to let the steam soften any splatters. After, take a sponge and wipe clean!

Deal with dirty kitchen cabinet surfaces

Out of sight and out of mind, we often forget to clean the top of the cabinets, but it's something we should be doing at least twice a year. Soapy water is our go-to for scrubbing away greasy gunk. After everything’s clean and dry, we also recommend laying down paper towels on the cabinet tops so that all you need to do is replace them next time you are sprucing up.

Sprinkle baking soda on linens

If you let the animals in the bed like we do, it's definitely time to do a deep clean on your bed! Depending on the type of bedding you own, We suggests refreshing comforters, pillowcases, and sheets with baking soda, white vinegar, and laundry detergent by running the washing machine on the hot max setting or the delicate setting. For mattresses and pillows, we recommend sprinkling baking soda on top, leaving for a couple hours, then vacuuming all the baking soda off.

Deep clean the mattress with steam

For deeply embedded stains and smells, it's time to call in reinforcements. If you own a steam cleaner, it’s always a good idea to use one on a mattress, or to spray it with white vinegar if you don’t. For both cases, be sure to let it dry out completely before making the bed.

Don’t just dust—wash your vent covers

We know it's easy to just dust the vent covers and move on to another task, but now is the time to wash the vent covers! Our tip is to remove the vent cover with a screwdriver and actually wash it in the shower or outside with soap and warm water before drying and screwing it back on.

Beat mold and mildew with bleach

Generally bleach is a solid choice when dealing with mold and mildew on bathroom tiles, and both experts recommend using a toothbrush with a bleach-based product to loosen up spots between tiles. We recommend a spot test first in a not very seen spot. Scrub the product into the affected area and let it sit until the paste dries, then wash off.

Prevent hard-water buildup

Depending on where you live and if you are on well water, you know the challenges of hard water build up. While a squeegee goes a long way for keeping your shower doors clean, hard water buildup happens to the best of us. We recommend Soft Scrub to deep clean the shower door, or a hard water stain remover like Bio Clean although my mom swears by water and white vinegar!

Freshen up musty closets

Once you’re done decluttering your closet, make sure it stays organized and fresh—even with a stinky laundry basket. We have a variety of tips and tricks to choose from!

- Cedar hang-ups to bring fresh wood scent to the closet while also repelling moths and mice

- Arm & Hammer baking soda packs

- A fragrant bar of soap like Irish Spring to keep things smelling better

- We also suggest tackling odors with white vinegar, too, either while cleaning or spraying it in the air

Scrub under large appliances with dishwashing soap

Little bits of food and dust frequently get trapped under major appliances like the stovetop, so spring-cleaning is always a good excuse to check out what’s under there. First, unplug the appliance ,then carefully pull the device out far enough to give yourself clearance to clean behind it. Start by sweeping up the big debris, or shop vacuuming them. If sweeping is done often enough, all you have to do next is wipe the floor with a wet cloth and you’re done.

Sometimes the dust might get extra sticky when caked with cooking grease, You can also scrub under there with hot water and dish soap.

Clean under furniture and rugs

The phrase “where the sun don’t shine” can certainly apply to that neglected space under the couch. Take the time to roll back heavy furniture and clean under there even if no one’s going to see it. Don't forget to give the same treatment to the floor under rugs. Roll them up and mop, and be sure to let the floor dry before putting the rugs back.

Whether you are looking to do a quick clean, or really delve into a new cleaning routine, we hope these tips and tricks give you some help!
