Starting The School Year Off Strong!
Starting The School Year Off Strong!
Summer is winding down & it’s time to prepare for our children to go back to school. Here’s a quick checklist of tips & tricks to make sure that your kids start the new school year off with an in preparedness !!
Finding a good space for homework
One of the best ways to start the school year off strong is by setting up a designated homework space. A good space has natural light, is quiet, and void of electronic distractions. This area should be stocked with any “supplies” they might need.
Create a daily Homework ‘time-block’ where homework is done the same time every day after school. Getting into that groove improves focus & leads to more good habits being done before and after too- That’s called “Habit-Stacking”& it increases efficiency too!
Prepare for the Day
Carpe Diem! Seize the day- and start with a great breakfast! Some great breakfast options include oatmeal, eggs, or one of dozens of yummy avocado toast recipes Masha makes each morning! Sleep- is NOT overrated; but it is under-achieved. Most of us don’t get enough sleep. Here is what experts say our kids need to perform well & support their bodies: pre-teens 10-12 hours each night & teenagers between 8-10 hours each night. WOW!
Create a new bedtime routine a few weeks before school starts. Many articles we have read suggest turning off electronics one hour before bed, and drinking only water after 8 pm.
Time Saver Tip: The night before they should lay out their outfit so they are excited for the day & don't waste precious morning time!
Set Goals
One of my favorite authors, John Acuff has a super podcast called “ All it Takes is A Goal”- and it’s full of super school friendly goal setting ideas. It’s great to have big goals- but he, and other experts suggest breaking them down into smaller, achievable goals so that you can share praise and ‘wins’ along the way to achieving that BIG GOAL!
Goals are more likely to be achieved when you write them down- so why not create a poster to hang in a visible spot in their study area & CELEBRATE the successes along the way!
Items you Need
We have compiled a list of items to pack in that bookbag & broken it down into Elementary, Middle School, and High School categories for quick reference! This will give you a ‘leg up’ on their teacher’s list.
