Happy new year!

With 2021 now behind us, 2022 ushers in many new and exciting opportunities! With many jobs still remote or new opportunities to work from home, people are spending more time in their homes than ever before! Being in the same space day in and day out can become monotonous and you may find things that you don’t still love about your home that you haven’t had the chance to notice before.

If you are feeling the need to update your space, here are some ways to give it a facelift in 2022!

Add some color!

This year brings about some fresh and exciting options! The Pantone Color of the Year is “Veri Peri,” a vibrant and attractive purple.

This color is quite powerful, but is stunning for accents. Imagine Veri Peri pillows paired with a deep purple throw or accents of this pigment in a new piece on your wall. I love it!

Incorporating the Pantone Color of the Year into your interior design elements is a great way to keep your space on-trend and modern, and when looking for inspiration to update a space, starting with a color to inspire is a great way to go- plus its relatively inexpensive to change if you tire of it sooner than planned!

If Veri Peri is a bit too intense or you are looking for a color better suited for larger-scale use in your home, check out BEHR’s 2022 color of the year - Breezeway.

This cool, gentle hue adds an aura of calm and really speaks to my “need for calm”. It is beautiful on walls, textiles, and as an accent with a more neutral base. Even the name itself is relaxing and elicits the feeling of a gentle, breezy day.

Change Some Accents!

If you are not looking to take on a larger home improvement project but still want to update your space, take a look around at your current accents: pillows, blankets, rugs, wall art, curiosities and trinkets, and other decor pieces. I bet you can find colors that bring calm into your world and freshen up the room at the same time!

Updating the arrangement of pieces on a bookshelf is a small way to change the feel of a space. Change the book or magazine sitting out on your coffee table to something that inspires you (I personally rotate between a few different photography books that add a splash of color or fun to my Living Room, like Peanut Butter Dogs, National Geographic Color Photography, and Dancers and Dogs. Not only are these fun for guests and visitors to flip through, they are fun for me to revisit as well.)

If you have a neutral couch, changing the throw blankets and pillows can totally shift the way the room feels. Look for patterns in textiles to bring in some visual interest!  For a space-saving tip, change out the pillow cases to change the look without needing to find storage for bulky pillows.

Rearrange!

Another quick way to update your space is to rearrange your furniture! You may have unmoving central pieces (like a kitchen island or mounted television) but there are many ways the other furniture in a room can be arranged around that piece to change your usual pattern into a fresh, new room.
