From Tax Season to Trash Bins: Thank You for Joining Us at Our Community Shred Event
Apparently, tax season ends the same way for everyone: with random folders, mystery receipts, old bank statements, and at least one overstuffed box labeled “important.”
This week, we hosted a Community Shred Event in Durham and learned something very quickly:
People have been waiting for an excuse to finally clean out their files.
Even with rainy weather, cars kept pulling in with boxes, bags, filing tubs, and enough paperwork to make everyone collectively wonder why we keep saving documents “just in case.”

Some people arrived with neatly organized folders.
Others showed up with entire storage bins full of paperwork.
And at least one person appeared to bring every document they’d received since sometime around 1997.
Honestly, we respect the commitment!

What started as a simple post-tax-season idea quickly became something much more fun than expected.
The goal was straightforward: give people an easy, secure way to safely dispose of sensitive documents without the hassle of figuring it out on their own.
But like most community events, it turned into more than that.
People stayed to chat in the rain, waved to neighbors through car windows, laughed about the amount of paper they’d accumulated over the years, and caught up with people they hadn’t seen in a while.
There were hugs, parking lot conversations, and several moments where people looked genuinely relieved watching old paperwork disappear into the shred bins.
Events like this are part of why we love what we do. Real estate is about homes, but it’s also about community, relationships, and creating opportunities for people to come together in ways that feel helpful, low-pressure, and genuinely enjoyable.
Huge thank you to everyone who came out despite the weather, and thank you to the Shred-it team for helping everything run so smoothly.

We're also incredibly grateful to the Keller Williams Elite leadership team- including Ashlee, Jane, and Noah - for helping support and coordinate another successful community event. Partnerships like this are a big part of what makes these events so meaningful.
If you missed this one, don’t worry. Based on how quickly the bins filled up, we have a feeling another shred event may need to happen again sooner rather than later!
